How do drains become blocked?

The most common causes of blockages are inappropriate items being flushed down the drains. Sometimes though, a blocked drain can indicate a more serious underlying problem such as a structural defect. Rest assured, though, all of our fully trained engineers carry the knowledge and tools to resolve any problem.

How do I know if I have a blocked drain?

Foul smells are usually the first warning sign of a problem, as well as the water level in your toilet looking unusually high, and a range of other indicators. If these signs are noticed and dealt with as early as possible though, the underlying problem will be quicker and undoubtedly cheaper to fix.

How long will It usually take to unblock my drains?

Obviously before our engineers attend your property to fully assess the situation, we have no guarantee of the time it will take. However, in most cases we aim to complete our work within one hour.

I have been experiencing problems with my drains but I'm not sure if it is on my property. How can I find out?

If you are unsure if the problem exists within your property boundaries, a complete plan of the drainage you are responsible for can be issued to you upon request from your Local Water Authority.

After my drain has been unblocked, how do I prevent further blockages?

Avoid flushing un-biodegradable products down the toilet, avoid washing food scraps and food product down the sink, and never wash cooking oils or fats down the drains. Also, if you live in an older property and have experienced several drainage problems, booking regular CCTV surveys to inspect the drains will give even better peace of mind.

I'm in the process of buying a house. Would a CCTV survey benefit me?

It is always beneficial to gain as much information on anything you will be investing your money into, especially if it's your potential home. If you have been notified by the seller that the property has had previous problems with the drains, a CCTV survey is a quick way of showing any potential drainage problem, as well as giving you and the seller an idea of how much it will cost to fix.

Are there any other times when a CCTV survey may be required?

Definitely. Especially if you have unexplained re-occurring problems such as a toilet continuously blocking, or mystery foul smells being present constantly. These are just two of the many signs of a structural problem, which we can quickly and easily identify and resolve with minimum hassle. All of our CCTV surveys include jetting prior to the survey, a full DVD of your drainage, and a fully written easy to understand report. As well as this, we will be able to provide a free quotation for any remedial works which may be required subject to our findings.

I've had a CCTV survey and have been told that my drain needs relining. Is this completely necessary?

Yes. Cracks and displaced joints will inevitably cause many costly problems in the future. In fact, we can safely say that the money spent on various callouts for a seemingly continuous drainage problem will be considerably more than money invested into drain relining. This is because relining creates a brand new layer of pipe inside the existing one where the problems lie, therefore creating a seemingly new pipe which is guaranteed to run smoothly for years to come.

What are the other benefits of your relining service?

Drain and sewer relining offers an extensive range of benefits, some of which include:

  • A full repair with no excavation
  • Minimum disruption
  • Creates a new continuous section - no weak spots!
  • Increased flow rates
  • Prevents further problems such as tree root infestation
  • 25 year guarantee
What pump station services do you offer?

Drain and Sewer Problems and the Laws of Probability
  • When you find your dream home and purchase without the benefit of a drainage survey, it's probable that sooner or later you will find unexpected problems with your drains!
  • The manhole cover in the middle of the area you are planning to build your new conservatory over, lay your patio on or deck over will probably block up at some point after it's been covered!
  • The cheapest quotation to start with will probably not be by the end!
  • When you are told it can easily be cleared by rods, the blockage will almost definitely require High Pressure Water Jetting.
  • A problem that starts in the morning will not be better at night. Don't wait and take the risk of a more costly solution, call us and someone will be sent out to investigate immediately.
  • The set of rods you buy to save money will probably end up costing you more!
  • Drains don't get back to normal on their own. If your drains need repairing don't wait.
  • Bad smells are a sure sign of a drainage problem. The longer you leave it the more it will cost.
  • When you call DALROD you will be dealt with by friendly staff, charged fairly and be given all the advice needed to leave you with complete peace of mind – definitely!
