DALROD were called in to carry out a large job at one of their client’s sites in Whittlesford which included the installation of a pumping station. The project, which began in June 2011, involved carrying out a CCTV survey of all of the drains on site, quantifying and mapping all of the drains, calculating roof loads, designing new soakaways, tanks and drainage systems, plus the addition of a new crated soakaway under an overflow car park.

Achieving time and budgetary deadlines for our customers

All of the work, including the installation of a pumping station with the necessary pumps and float switches, was completed on time and on budget, within the seven month deadline, to the customer’s complete satisfaction. This job was worth in the region of £500,000.00 plus VAT for the group.

If you have a project you would like to discuss with DALROD please call on 01733 231122 and we will be pleased to offer some advice and guidance.

The people of Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire are used to high flying planes, but based at ground level DALROD are achieving some high flying results of their own.

The area, managed by mother and son team Chris and Steve Guiton, has been running for 4 years and has just posted its best figures in that time – 35% up on 2011. This has helped the DALROD group achieve record figures for 2011/2012, and the group turnover has doubled in 5 years.

A new profitable way of life for all the family

When Steve left the Royal Marines 6 years ago he could not find a challenging job and mum Chris was feeling stale in her own job, but an off-the-cuff remark from Del Guiton, who is Regional Manager for the DALROD group, led to a new way of life for the whole family.

Starting in January 2008 with one van, one engineer and a kitchen-based office, through a combination of hard work, great service and group support, DALROD today occupy a modern office/warehouse unit on the outskirts of Lincoln, where they employ two engineers, run two emergency vans and are just about to take delivery of a 17.5 tonne combination drain cleaning/waste removal lorry.

DALROD now number several high profile local businesses among their customers together with food processing factories, local authorities and military establishments throughout the area.

The generation game

Chris Guiton commented “Although Del has been in the industry for 28 years and I had seen the sort of things he was used to dealing with, it still came as a big shock to actually be running a business day-to-day but with everyone working hard we are now seeing the benefits.”

Steve Guiton added “When I left the forces the last thing I expected to be doing was to be running a drain cleaning business with my mum!!! But as we continue to grow I find the job rewarding and interesting with no two days the same”.

The next generation of DALROD is already in place as Steve and his wife Amy celebrated their daughters 1st birthday in April.

DALROD head office would like to send their congratulations to Chris and Steve and look forward to the continuing success of the Lincs./Notts. area.

DALROD were asked to carry out works at an old ATS depot in Brooke Street, St Neots. This was stationed next to a redundant building by the river which was to be refurbished and turned into a block of flats. Whilst the refurbishment was taking place the developers decided that what used to be the boat port at the side of the building needed to be cleaned to allow it to be used as a boat port again for the residents of the flats. As a specialist team, DALROD were called in with a JHL combination vacuum tanker to clean out the sump which was working at river level.

Huge build up of silt removed

In order to do this the face of the building has to be damned off in order to isolate the water flow in through the boat port under the building, which allowed cleaning out the sedimentation that had built up since the pre 1930′s.

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-358" title="dalrod-pics-580-brookst-3" src="http://www.dalrod.co.uk/newsblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/dalrod-pics-580-brookst-3.jpg" alt="DALROD carry out works at old ATS depot in Brooke Street, St Neots.

4 to 5 tonnes of silt was removed, the dam wall removed and the water was allowed to flow back in to its correct level. The task was completed in one day’s shift and the customer was delighted with the works carried out. This was an unusual task for the DALROD team but was carried out professionally in a safe manner to our client’s satisfaction.

DALROD has recently added another key player to their proficient drainage team in the form of 35 year-old experienced mechanic Richard Wheatley. With over 18 years working in the motor trade as a vehicle technician, Richard will be on hand to keep all of the company’s growing fleet of specialist tankers and vans serviced, maintained and in tip-top condition. And as DALROD’s mobile mechanic, should a breakdown occur, Richard will swiftly be on the scene to carry out any necessary repair work. DALROD’s mission is to offer the very best service for their customers and MD Dave Lane commented that any minimising of downtime while the crew are out working on a job will be of great benefit to their customers.

Qualified Mercedes technician

Richard, who has mechanical technician qualifications in all 3 levels of City & Guilds and is a qualified Chrysler/Jeep/Mercedes technician also has another key qualification as an ice-hockey coach – having coached the Peterborough Islanders and the S.E.

DALROD work continuously over the weekend to open flooded pedestrian underpass

Following a recent burst water main in a grass verge in Bretton Way, Peterborough, that flooded out the adjacent pedestrian underpass, Anglian Water began pumping out the water and reduced the level sufficiently to allow work to continue on sludge removal, drain cleaning and pump inspection.

12 hour shifts throughout weekend

DALROD Pumping Solutions were asked by the council approved contractor Ringway to undertake this work which began on a Friday afternoon. Two combination tanker units were used and worked in 12 hour shifts throughout the weekend which, following their pump inspection, allowed the underpass to be re-opened by Sunday afternoon.

Due to further expansion DALROD in St Ives, Cambridgeshire have recently ordered a new Dancutter called a Robot Cutter DC FLEX from Dancutter in Denmark. This is to accompany the existing Dancutter van which was fitted out last year, complementing the working operation of this vehicle and giving more flexibility with awkward jobs – especially when negotiating in a 3-5 inch pipe around multiple bends.

Forward facing for speedier results

The original Dancutter system has also been upgraded with new cutting motors and camera heads with forward facing units as opposed to the older style with the rear facing heads. This enables us to work speedier within the pipe dimensions which allow the cuts to be cleaner and quicker.

The new unit is due to be delivered by the beginning of April and will be out working on contract in our plain cutting van which is sub-hired to other contractors. This move strengthens our operations within East Anglia and gives us the ability to carry out jobs on any size and condition of pipe work.

As DALROD’s continued expansion began to put severe pressure on its out-of-hours telephone system it became essential to find a professional answering service who could both understand the business, whilst giving customers the continuity of service offered by DALROD’s own staff during the normal working day. DALROD found that Totally Inbound, a Peterborough based company, could provide the service it needed and match the stringent criteria required.

Swift problem solving out-of-hours response

The system went live in December 2010 and DALROD is delighted that the out-of-hours service has just taken the 1,000th call for DALROD – proving just how much in demand the ever-resourceful drainage company is becoming for both day and night time working schedules. In addition to all the night time work that DALROD carry out in order to minimise disruption, emergency calls often come in during the night – and if DALROD is to keep its reputation for having a swift problem-solving response, the out-of-hours answering service requires careful handling as it is of vital importance to the growth of the company.

Del Guiton, DALROD’s Regional Manager commented “Dealing efficiently and effectively with calls is a major part of the DALROD teams’ training and Totally Inbound need to reflect the DALROD attention to detail at all times. We would like to pass on our sincere thanks to Michelle Dunn and her staff for their hard work and support during the past 13 months and look forward to our continued working relationship for the years ahead. Special thanks to the Directors Dave and Helena who prove that dealing with demanding customers can be rewarding!”.

DALROD’s 24/7 night service solves persistent problem for major London store

When a major retailer with a flagship store in Oxford St, London started experiencing a high number of blockages in their foul system they asked their maintenance company to provide some answers.

DALROD to the rescue
After taking the usual steps to attempt to resolve the issue the problem was still persisting and at that point they approached DALROD for some help and advice. We suggested that a CCTV drainage survey was undertaken to investigate the system and identify the problems. This was duly arranged and the survey carried out overnight to minimise disruption to the stores customers and staff.

Out of hours schedule means no disruption for our clients’ customers
Our survey identified heavy scaling to the main internal soil and vent cast iron stack. A schedule has been agreed to undertake extensive cleaning works, again out of hours, to remove the scale and return the stack to full working condition. Upon completion a further CCTV survey will be carried out to demonstrate that the works have achieved the desired results.

Future peace of mind
A regular maintenance programme will then be implemented to ensure that the problem does not re-occur.
