DALROD Head Office, this week have started their New Year healthy workplace challenge, in walking a mile a day.
Director Dave Lane, challenged the head office staff when they returned back to work after the Christmas break to a healthier 2019, by suggesting at some point within their working day they walk a mile. The mapped route of 1.3 miles takes approx 20-30 minutes depending on how quick the individual walks, achieving approx 3000 steps and gives employees time to refresh and rejuvenate their minds and get active.
All the staff, who are normally stuck behind a desk for 7 hours each day, we’re all up for the challenge and couldn’t wait to get going. Many go in groups, but others do go alone when their diaries allow, to get out in the fresh air.
It has been proven by exercising for 20-30 minutes per day prevents depression and brain fog in the workplace, giving a happy place to work. With artificial lighting, starring at computer screens or continuously going from meeting to meeting is not healthy for the brain or state of mind, so getting away from your desk into natural lighting will help to revitalise you and your mind and protect your memory and thinking skills.
Exercise has also been scientifically proven to reduce insulin resistance, inflammation as well as stimulating your brain cells to grow more. Of course, there are plenty of other good reasons to get out walking, which include reducing the odds of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
What are you waiting for, you can get out and walk a mile a day to refresh your mind and get healthier this New Year.
