DALROD Leeds were recently called to a local primary school to complete a full clean of the drains and gutters. The project took four days and required our engineers to tackle a wide range of issues, from surface level blockages to hidden structural defects within the drainage system.
Clearing the Playground and Drains
Work began on the ground with the school’s ACO drains. These had become completely solid with sand and mud, preventing surface water from draining away effectively. Once cleared, our engineer pressure washed the playground using high-pressure water jetting (HPWJ), leaving the surface both safe and clean for pupils.
Tackling Gutters and Roof Gullies
Attention was then turned to the roof, where safe access was gained to clear the gutters and roof gullies. Over time, debris had built up in these areas, creating the risk of water overflow and damage to the building. By removing this, the roof’s drainage system will continue flowing, reducing the risk of unexpected leaks and costly repairs.
Deep Cleaning and CCTV Survey
With the visible systems clear, engineers focused on the underground drainage network. All drains were jetted through to remove built up material. A full CCTV survey was then carried out across the site. The survey is an essential step as it reveals hidden defects that could otherwise remain undetected until they cause major problems.
Finishing Work and Findings
The final day on site was used to complete the CCTV survey and finish the jetting works. During the survey, a total of nine structural defects were found. Before leaving, our engineer carried out another HPWJ clean of the playground, ensuring it was left spotless for pupils returning to school in September.
The Importance of Regular Maintenance
This project is a clear reminder of why regular drainage maintenance is so important for schools. Without it, blocked playground drains, overflowing gutters and pipe defects can easily develop into much larger problems.
DALROD Leeds continues to support schools across the region with one-off cleans, emergency callouts and pre-planned maintenance (PPM) options. This ensures your schools’ drainage system is safe, reliable and fit for the future.
Our regional, local teams across the U.K. also offer free school site visits which allow us to address any issues and come up with drainage maintenance options completely tailored to your school. This can help avoid potential costly repairs and emergency callouts, ultimately ensuring smoother day-to-day running of your facility.
