DALROD Bath & Swindon were recently called to work on the former Aberthaw Power Station in South Wales.
This huge coal-fired power station first started construction back in 1957 and was commissioned in 1963. At its peak, it generated electricity for around 1.5 million homes. Parts of the station ran right up into 2020 before being decommissioned.
Now, the 500-acre site is being cleared to make way for a brand new green energy and zero carbon manufacturing hub, and DALROD are proud to be part of the process.
Drainage Work During Demolition
DALROD Bath & Swindon were called in during the demolition phase to carry out full cleans and CCTV Surveys on the site’s storm drains.
The first phase took place in an area where demolition had already been completed. A combination tanker was used to clear the drainage system where possible, followed by a crawler camera to inspect the condition of the drains post-demolition.
It’s always hugely exciting to work on sites like this with a real sense of history. With the site sitting right on the coast overlooking the Bristol Channel, our engineers also got to enjoy some great views during the recent spell of amazing weather!
Looking Ahead
We’re now preparing for phase two of the work, in an area where demolition has just begun. The DALROD Bath & Swindon team are looking forward to the chance to return to site and continue to support this incredible transformation.
Jobs like this are a great reminder of the UK’s industrial heritage whilst also shifting towards a greener future. We’re proud to play a small part in that journey.
