bringing full confined space equipment to safely access a deep manhole on site.
What appeared to be a simple blockage soon revealed a more complicated problem hidden below ground.
Inspections Reveal Incorrectly Capped Line
Once inside the chamber, engineers discovered a 4-inch protruding clay dropper line that had been incorrectly capped. The cap had failed, allowing concrete, rocks, clay, and other debris to fall directly into the main drainage run.
The issue was causing restricted flow and risking full system failure if left unresolved.
HPWJ Clears Heavy Debris
The team used specialist high-pressure water jetting equipment, along with targeted rod attachments, to remove the stubborn material lodged in the pipe. Heavy concrete fragments were carefully broken down and removed.
These techniques allowed the team to fully expose the run and restore proper flow through the system.
Professional Patch Repairs for Structural Integrity
Once the debris was cleared, further inspection revealed dropped joints within the pipework. To resolve this, engineers installed two patch repairs to stabilise the affected area.
A structural patch connection was also installed to secure the joint between the dropper and main line. These no-dig repair methods avoided the need for excavation, reduced disruption, and restored long term reliability.
