Recently, DALROD North East joined forces with DALPUMPS to overcome a challenging drainage issue on a building site involving removing one tonne of construction waste.
DALROD North East were requested to attend a building site to complete descaling on an outlet pipe. However, an unexpected discovery quickly changed the scope of the job.
Both manholes providing access to the drainage system had been accidentally backfilled with building waste and rubble. This created a significant obstacle, preventing access to the pipework and introducing additional safety risks.

Tackling an Unexpected Challenge
Before the outlet pipe could be descaled, the team needed to restore access to the drainage system.
Approximately one tonne of building waste had to be removed from the manholes. Given the nature of the obstruction, this required careful planning and a high-risk manual entry operation.
Safety was a key consideration throughout the work. DALPUMPS provided specialist confined space support, helping the teams manage the challenging conditions and carry out the work.
The collaboration allowed the teams to address the immediate problem and move towards the original objective.
Restoring Drainage Performance
With access restored, the team could focus on the customer’s initial request.
A tanker unit was deployed to carry out high-pressure water cleaning and descaling of the outlet pipe. This process removed accumulated scale and deposits, helping to restore the pipework’s internal condition.
Following the cleaning operation, the outlet pipe was flow tested to confirm that water could pass through the system successfully.
The Importance of Teamwork
This job highlights the importance of collaboration, specialist expertise, and the ability to adapt when unexpected problems arise on site.
What began as a routine descaling request became a more complex operation involving substantial waste removal, confined space work, and specialist cleaning equipment.
By working together, DALROD North East and DALPUMPS were able to overcome these challenges and complete the work, ensuring the outlet pipe was cleaned and flow tested.
The job also serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting drainage infrastructure during construction. Accidentally backfilled manholes can prevent essential maintenance and create additional risks, potentially leading to costly delays if left unresolved.
With the right expertise and equipment DALROD and DALPUMPS continue to deliver practical solutions to complex drainage challenges, helping customers keep their sites operating safely and efficiently.
