DALROD Lincoln is currently delivering a rolling maintenance programme at a large site in Lincolnshire, carrying out a full clean and restoration of cast iron foul stacks throughout the properties tower block.
Working within a busy healthcare environment, the project focuses on improving drainage performance, reducing the risk of recurring blockages, and helping maintain essential services across the site.
Addressing Years of Build-up
As part of the programme, the Lincoln team identified significant internal build-up with sections of the pipework, with some stacks showing no evidence of having been cleaned in many years.
In several areas, deposits had reduced the original 4-inch internal diameter of the pipework down to as little as 2 inches, dramatically restricting flow capacity.
These restrictions were starting to impact day to day operations. Wastewater and solids were backing up throughout the system. In some areas, black slurry was discharging through sinks and toilets into wards and patient spaces. This was obviously creating operational and hygiene concerns.
Specialist Mechanical Milling Restores Full Capacity
To resolve the issue, DALROD Lincoln deployed specialist Picote mechanical milling equipment to remove years of internal buildup without the need for disruptive replacement works. The process restored the internal diameter of the stacks and returned the pipework to full working capacity. This allows wastewater and solids to move freely through the system once again.
The result is a significantly more reliable drainage network with improved flow performance and a greatly reduced risk of further blockages.
The before and after images demonstrate the build-up removed and the substantial improvement achieved through the mechanical milling process.
